    isa modem driver

hmmm, looking for a driver for an isa 33.6 modem with a rockwell 96 chipset, for windows 2000 and if possible linux as well.

i can post a picture of the chip if needed.

you may ask - why bother whne there are faster ones around?

well, this is a true hardware modem, and is actually faster for many things than most 56k modems, and i cannot really justify the expense of a true hardware 56k modem, so i will stick with this one if at all possible

More details please... the chipset is almost irrelevant - whats the FCC ID? If you can't find that on the card, what other numbers are on the card itself? Have you tried installing it as a standard internal modem?

no it's not. using the picture and numbers from the chipset I found a driver over at driver guide. . . . which of course is not as reliable a site as windrivers, but it's also not a pay site . . . . so try it out. no one has posted any bad comments about the driver. . . . which is a good sign.

if it prompts for user name and pass, it's username:"drivers" pass:"all"

Yes the reference drivers will drive the chipset, but what about any other facilities on the modem? Getting the right drivers often negates future problems.

besides voice modem facilities what other facilities are we talking about? who has actually ever used their "voice" modem features anyway?

and the "right" drivers for his modem had to built from the reference drivers so I don't see how it could really cause problems. . . . . assuming the files from driver guide ARE actually reference drivers for that chipset (which I know can sometimes be a big assumption with that website.) but no one has made negative comments about the driver so I say go for it.
