RIAA
While the RIAA promotes their sleeze under the auspice of backing the recording artists who are "loosing" money I have to agree with one senator who's rebuttle to the entire issue was this:
"So...the RIAA should be given the lease to litigate each and every American individual downloading off the internet...and in the process, deprive little Johnnie from his college education so that Kid Rock can continue to make millions? I think not"
In addition...how many parents are mowing the grass while their 13 year old is downloading MP3's off the web? It's not the 13 who will be sued, but the PARENT who's name is logged with the ISP.
It's just another attack on the little guy by big business. It's their response to the natural order of things. The world is ever changing...and with technology....changing more. Who the hell listens to radio stations anymore as they once did in the twenties? TV came along....Who rides a horse to work when they can drive? In the natural progression with technology, there comes a time when your losses are a result of technology. Milking the people for those losses is wrong. If the PEOPLE do not engage and DEMAND the government to deal with the issue ON BEHALF of the voters...the RIAA will establish another means of revenue through litigation and compensation....and it's NOT for the benefit of their artists...they screw THEM too! Follow the money....

I don't support intellectual piracy in and of itself. However I do have to say that the entertainment industry is soaking us for waaay more than is reasonable. As long as CDs are commonly going for $18 and DVDs for $30 I have little difficulty understanding why some people do pirate their music and movies.
I'm really hoping someone big enough (like perhaps Gateway though actually I'd think it would need to be an entertainment firm) will come out with a new business model that is built on downloads and search engines and incorporates reasonable pricing for songs and movies. I don't think it will happen but I'd love to see the corporate scrambling that would ensue.
I could go on and on but I'll wind up ranting and rambling. I think we're paying too much, I'll leave it at that.
Good for Gateway.
If it's true that wherever you go, there you are: how come so many people look lost?

I think there is absolutly NO BRAINS in the Record Industry any more.
Thats why they Killed the 45 and never introduced anything in its place. They should be selling digital 45s like the old days 2 songs for $4.50 hell whats the cost to them other than hosting.
I think I am showing my age.
For those of you who dont know a 45 is, its a small record or those Vinyl things that look like frizebees your older brother used to toss around,

I have around 500 CDs and about 100 or so Vinyl in 12'' 7'' and yes even a couple 5'' and a couple 100 tapes, not to mention DVDs VHS and band Tshirts
So to me this is entirely rubbish especially when you consider that an mp3 is NOT nearly the bitrate quality of the origional. Also the internet bypasses their business costs of production and distribution so the savings should be passed along to the consumer.
If gateway or apple want to get into the business of selling poor quality versions of songs to the public then the price should match, maybe 25 cents a song at the very most, or the quality should be a very high bit rate at 50 cents.
The RIAA is all a Major Label Circle Jerk anyway which just teaches you the value of Buying Independent.
Interesting reading material ont the whole subject here
