SB Live and the IRQ 5 BIOS Setting
I'm going to give the SB-Live X-Gamer a shot in my Asus CUV4X-E motherboard (VIA 694X chipset). Just to clarify for an idiot such as myself, if I run into some problems after installation all I need to do is set the Legacy drive to IRQ 5 in the BIOS and install the latest LiveWare drivers?

Supposedly that is one of the many fixes. However, I'd check www.viahardware.com for more info. SB don't play well with VIA chipsets.

Yes, setting IRQ 5 to legacy ISA in the BIOS does solve about 95% of all SB Live related problems, or disabling SB16 emulation all together.
Does ANYTHING play well with a VIA chipset (without loading a dozen different service packs/patches/fixes)? Oh well, all the cool motherboards are using VIA chipsets these days, so what are you gonna do?

If it wasn't for VIA I wouldn't have many problems with my computer. Before it want haywire the SB Live! drivers would blue screen the system and not boot into safe mode. So I blew out the system and changed the IRQ 5 to Legacy and it loaded the drivers with no problem. I would say have a good backup before you install that card "Just in case".
