    Open Ports Question

I'm rather new to networking as a whole and I realize that security is a major concern so I used a port scanning proggie to scan for open ports on a clients network. Worked great I found lots of open ports that I imagine should be closed only problem is I'm not sure where to start. If anyone has a tutorial I can read thats free cause I only make like 6/hr and my family wants to eat before I buy more books I would greatly appreciate it. TIA

Get yourself a free firewall & start reading the documentation/help available with it & try it out on your home 'beast' you'll get the gist pretty quickly ...

The general rule is close all ports ! then allow traffic on 'required' ports like 80 for browsing or whatever ...

software or hardware firewall, matters not, that is the only way to close ports.
