I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good high level/enterprise type backup software.......Here is what my situation is now.....

I am currently using Veritas Backup Exec 9.0 with an Exabyte 221L 21 slot tape library with 2 LTO-1 Drives. Our problem is that I cannot do a full backup all of the servers on my network (roughly 50) in a period of Friday night @ 8 pm (EST) to Sunday Morning @ 6 am (EST). The size of the backup is roughly 1.5 Terabytes. One of the problems with Backup Exec is that it will not allow the LTO-1 Drives to perform at full capacity, the library is able to run @ roughly 400 GB/hr. Now you would think that should be able to get the job done in the time allotted and have plenty of time to spare to back up all of my MP3's....LOL. But as I stated before, it does not come close. So it looks like most of my problem is thruput. Now there are many items that need to be factored in, disk access times for any one of the servers, network congestion, etc.... Most of the devices are Compaq servers with decent SCSI cards running RAID 5, some of the devices are mini NAS devices running IDE RAID (Max Attaches, SNAP Appliances, etc.). Now the network end is pretty good, all of my servers are running Gigabit over ethernet, across a backbone that is comprised of 3Com 4924 Switches. There is minimal to no network congestion when the backups run on the weekend.

I am taking a look @ Veritas Netbackup right now, but I'm not too thrilled with it so far (you would think with a $30,000 price tag it would be easy to use.....yeah, right....).

I am looking for something that will allow me to use the LTO-1 tape drives closer to their full capacity (I know that I will not come close to the 400 GB/hr, but at least to get more out of them than Backup Exec allows). Also I realize that compression will get you better speeds, but most of the items to be backed up will not compress much more than they already are.....So I am open to any suggestions.....

Also if anyone has had a good experience with tape libraries (or backing up to NAS devices) that can hold at least 4 drives and 50 or more tapes, I would like hear your opinions. Please let me know if you have any questions for me about the environment I am working in.......

One last thing (not like I am asking for a hole hell of a lot in the first place...LOL). Has anyone found a backup product that works well with backing up Sybase databases in a timely matter (I have a few databases that are in excess of 380 GB), please let me know. Thanx everybody in advance.....
