    Help Tweaking An XP Install

I just recently install XP Home on a 500 MHz box with 128 MB of RAM. I download SP1 and all updates {total of 71MB}. Everything seemed to be running fine. But, the customer picked the unit up, returned home, and began to have a few problems.

    1. He says that about every 10-15 minutes the floppy drive spins for quite seem time like the A drive is being accessed with no floppy inserted. I did not notice this after the install. Norton System Works 2003 is installed and I thought MAYBE it has something to do with Norton disk doctor. And, he installed a CD Burner after getting the unit home but I am not aware of how this could cause the floppy to behave this way.
    2. He says that every time he boots up, XP detects new hardware, which is his HP Office Jet 700 printer. He allows XP to install each time BUT still gets the message at each reboot. I suggested downloading the updated XP drivers from HP as a solution.
    3. He has a video camera that can be detected on ONLY 1 of 2 USB ports located on the rear of the tower. Trying to plug the camera into the other port results in the camera not being detected at all. I suggested the possibility of a bad port.

If anyone can shed some light on these three problems, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jeff Farrar

The drive spinning could either be Norton Antivirus or running indexing and its looking for files.

For the office jet problem Ensure the drivers are installed EXACTLY how hp recommends.

The camera could be being plugged into a bad port, or the port is shorting against the case or the plug from the camera is. Some cases don't leave alot of clearance.

I've actually seen problem 3 occur on a Compaq I serviced previously. A scanner could only be detected (and work) in the top USB connector.

Never did figure out why... Maybe the one on top is the alpha connector.
