InCD for re-writeables?

I use InCD and Nero to burn CD RWs however it only reads them on the writer that they were burnt on.

When I try to read the CD in another machine i get the Ahead software popup saying this:

Dear Customer,

You are currently trying to read a disc in the Mt. Rainier format (CD-MRW/DVD+MRW).
You are seeing this message, instead of the contents of the disc, because
your system currently does not support the CD-MRW/DVD+MRW format.
To enable you to add CD-MRW/DVD+MRW support to your system we have developed a

However none of the stuff they offer to install works, always get errors during installation (on several different machines). Anyone have a solution?

What are the errors you get during installation?

Do the machines have any other burning software already installed on them, eg Adaptec/Roxio?

Have you deliberately formatted the disks in Mt Rainier (CD-MRW), or did it just happen that way? If you format your disks in normal CD-RW UDF format you may not need to install the new reader on those systems.

Just a suggestion, but does the cd-rw you burn these discs on support mt ranier? It could be that it does anad the other one doesnt

The CD-RWs are already in this format, maybe I should re-format them to UDF and try it.

No other burning software on the comp (the one i want to read on doesnt have a burner, just a regular CD).

i think its time to fry mt rainier

If our experience at work is anything to go by, when a disk has been formatted CD-MRW (Mt Rainier), a re-format to standard UDF can fail if done in a drive that is not Mt Rainier compliant. As Radical Dreamer says, the drive firmware needs to support CD-MRW. We're still experimenting with the different age drives we've got CD-RWs circulating around.

The problem we had was the re-formatted disk immediately registered as full.

I'd suggest to re-format to UDF in the Mt Rainier aware system, but with the CD-MRW format option unchecked.

yeah the re-format to UDF worked. Why do they bother with this mt rainier format when it can't be read by any other drive???

It can be read by any 'other' drive ... but the o/s is what doesn't support the format. (that's what the non working download was supposedly about) ...

UDF is really pretty inefficient with 'written' data, its designed for pre-done audio tracks really.

Mount Rainier is a standard that provides background formatting and defect management for storage on CD-RW and DVD+RW. This makes rewritable discs far easier to use and allows the replacement of the floppy. In the near future, native Operating System support for Mount Rainier is available.
