how to use remote desktop connection with dial up

    i am stumped!!

i have two computers far far away from each other, and they both connect to the internet with dial-up internet and both have windows xp pro

now my question is: can i use windows xp pro's remote desktop connection to connect one computer to the other?? or does it only work if they are on a network?

    thanks

As I recall, you would need a static IP on at least the remote computer, or someone at that unit that can tell you the IP that it is connected to the internet with. You can find more info here

you need the IP address of the computer your connecting to, otherwise, yes remote desktop will function across the internet. Also, if your running a firewall, make sure port 3389 is open (RDP protocol - aka, terminal server) on the computer you are connecting to.

It could be timing out. If you don't have enough bandwidth the connection will sever. Do you get logged on to a desktop when it connects?
