Slowly Losing Time
We have a compaq proliant 3000, dual PII 450's that we use for our file server. It runs Novell 5 and also handles NDPSM as well.
Over the last month or two its been losing time slowly. And at a regular pace. I figure hey thats an easy fix, CMOS battery.
So we order the replacement from Compaq, one of those external battery types, plugs in via some lead outs on the board and you switch a jumper over for it.
Problem is, after replacing the battery this past saturday, I come in on monday morning and find its still lost the same amount of time.
Anyone been the in the same boat before? Cause right now only thing I can think of is maybe I got a bad battery.
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

curious
Is there any error messages regarding "Synthetic Time"? Do you 'get' time from another server?

Yea, but it only happens when I come in on mondays and the server has fallen back like 12 to 20 hours or something like that.
As long as I keep the set time up to date I do not get any messages like that. And no We do not sync this server to any external sources like MIT, NIST, or even our own internal domain controllers.
Like I said, Im leaning towards I bought a bad replacement battery as I just went over all the steps that Compqa white docs say and they seem right.
