    problems connecting router thru wan

    its a d-link di-714p+
    has a wan port
    4 lan ports
    .11b wireless
    and a print server

    im trying to connect it to a dsl modem (efficent speedstream 5600)thru this router wan side
    my carrier uses pppo ,, but i cannot connect to modem supplying my user name /password/dns entries

    I can how ever connect to modem using dynamic settings but cannot browse or even ping modem,,, anyone have any thoughts?

    router 192.168.0.2
    also there nowhere in the documentions where it even talks about if the modem itself is a router too, but I have tried bridged mode with no success

    yes I have ,, this info is in the manual, router is new with all documation

    OK, here is what i see as going on. Your modem is a speedstream 5600, that modem happens to have a built in router. Now, you purchased a wireless router for internal access.

    So, you have 3 options.

    1. go into your modem configurations, and turn off it's routing abilities so it acts as a regular modem, then configure your wireless router to share your internet.

    2. Turn off the routing options on the wireless router, plug the internal ports of the wireless router into the lan port on the modem, and let the wireless router act as a simple WAP

    3. Try to setup a router behind a router, you'll have to use standard DHCP on the the wireless router, and you'll loose all abilities to configure the modem unless you rearange the wiring.

    I would recommend you take step 1 if possible
