Question Help! My monitor only displays blues now!

I was just surfing the web when all of a sudden my monitor instantly starts to display only shades of blue! I can still read everything fine on my monitor and all but everything is just a tint of blue. The whole screen is just turned a tint of blue instantly, its a light blue color but it looks terrible and I wonder whats wrong with my monitor. This monitor is a ViewSonic PS790. It was made in 1999. Its really not that old I guess. Anybody have an idea whats wrong with it? thanks

    reboot

check to make sure the data cable going into the back of your pc is in securely. if necessary unplug and replug it.

    degause your monitor

uninstall and reinstall the monitor and/or the video card.

Wiggle the cable where it goes into the plug.

sorry none of that worked. do you think maybe something inside the monitor burnt out? maybe its just at the end of its days. I carry this monitor around alot, taking it over to friends houses for lan parties occasionally, but Im usually rather careful with it. but when it started looking like this I had been usuing it for a few days and then it screwed up immediately/

Well a search on google turned up this page of reviews. I always take reviews with a grain of salt, because people are quicker to post negatively, but the first reviewer does specifically mention lifespan issues, and the red gun failing.

ViewSonic states on their support site to check this
Make sure the pins on the video cable are not damaged or bent.

Verify the video cable is securely connected to the video card in the computer.

Be sure that all electronic devices are at least 3-4 feet away from the monitor.

If your monitor is equipped with a manual degauss function, try to degauss the monitor to see if the color dissipates. If this function is not available, then turn the monitor off, wait about 15 minutes, and then turn the monitor back on.

This will cause an automatic degauss to occur.

Try moving the monitor to a different location in the room.

Test the monitor on a different computer to isolate the problem further.
They make a couple good points about checking for bent pins and you said you take it to friends' houses, maybe you should do that as their last suggestion states "Test the monitor on a different computer to isolate the problem further."

And blasting the holy hell out of it with compressed air such as dustoff is always a good attack plan.

however, NEVER open up a monitor unless you are a qualified professional they can store electrical charge for a very long time when unplugged, enough to kill you!!!

last night I was using the monitor and it suddenly switched back to normal, all the colors were fine, it stayed like that for about a minute then screwed up again. It kept switching back and forth a few times and now it has been screwed up agian for about a day. this is so confusing.
