    Post cirrus logic!!!

Hello, tryin' to help out a friend here. I need to find the drivers for a cirrus logic 5446 pci video card. Cirrus logic says they no longer support or supply drivers for their video cards! The driver I am looking for would be for win98.

    Thanks in advance

I don't even know whether Win98 drivers would have been produced for this chip, and Cirrus drivers seem to be hard to find these days.

It should be possible to use Win95 drivers, installing them using the "Have Disk" option if Win98 doesn't identify them.

In case you don't have access to W95 drivers, I've emailed you a generic set.

    Hope it helps.

just been tru about 10 install disks with vid drivers on , none show 5446 @win98 (although the disks are new enough to list 98) cirrus is now defunk.

neither winfiles or driversguide list them.

windrivers are listed as using them.

compac used the vid card in some of there machines ,,,but i aint spending xhrs looking without a model no.

    good luck

    Wink

Well, I've searched my collection and found a driver for Win95. I'm pretty sure it works on Win98 too.
I have uploaded it on my Yahoo! Briefcase for you.

    Here you go:

    Good luck!

Ok here is an update!!! I was doing a fresh install which is why I was looking for the cl5446 drivers. Turns out win 98 has them already. I do however have a problem still though...Occasionally when I boot or reboot (doesn't seem to follow a specific pattern) the puter "finds" new hardware and attempts to install the cl5446 drivers then of course requires a restart and viola it does it again! Sometimes 3-4 times in a row. I tried to update to the drivers sent me by Alien but it says it's current driver is better and will not update! Any suggestions 'sides trashing this antique?
PS Platypus thanks for the attempt with the e-mail but there was no attachment!

    Here's what I would do.

Since Windows driver is newer than mine I would try to deal with it. Boot into Safe Mode and delete any display driver found. Then boot normally and let Windows autodetect it once again.
If the problem persists, use my driver no matter if it's older. It should work.
In addition, check the BIOS settings for the VGA card once again. The IRQs etc.
Also, keep in mind that if no driver can be installed and remain installed, sometimes this can be caused by the card itself. Maybe it's faulty somehow.

I've had the same problem with the exact same card. Tried all the fixes i could think of but to no avail. Just replace it with a cheapo and have done with it - i spent days and days trying to sort it because i don't like something to beat me but in the end you have to know when to give up! Funnily enough, it worked a-ok in Win95...go figure.
