Symantec following in Microsoft's footsteps with product activations.

Looks like Symantec decided that they weren't getting a big enough slice of the pie and will be following in Microsoft's footsteps with a product activation for their new 2004 line up. Story here.

    Hi there,

I'll just stick with the current Norton 2003 version. I heard that there isn't much different between the versions, just extra feature that I might not even need.\

Beside, who needs an Anti-virus software if you're careful what you download, where you go on the site and all that. A simple protection should be enough.

That is plain silly - you can be as careful as you like about the sites, msblast you could get from anywhere if you weren't patched, nimda was another... and what about email?

Don't foget - Mentality like the above is what helps put groceries on several people's table.

Running a computer that is used for online services without antivirus is just plain silly -

I really don't understand what the fuss is over product activation. It's a completely painless process as seen on Windows XP. If you pay for the software, you have nothing to worry about, and if you don't pay for the software, you have no right to complain.

Although, hopefully Symantec is smart enough to do this right, not like Intuit did with QuickTax/TurboTax and the associated fallout.

    Thumbs up

    Agreed, Mac.
I will gladly buy and activate NAV.
It is just like all the griping about NAV being a resource hog.
Use XP or 2K and that is simply not a problem.
For me it wasn't with 3.1, 95, 98, or me, either.
I wonder if users were installing NSW with System Doctor running in the background along with all the other apps that want to do that by default.
Then to top it off have NDD run everytime on start up as well.
Geez, I've seen pc's like that start off with 60% resources available at startup.
