Help emergency!!
My friend is a software developer-- he was working (had about 12hrs worth of UNSAVED work--why is it that the one's that know better always push it?!?!) Anyway, he was working along, had many windows open when everything just stopped- and HDD started making a "chirping" noise. Nothing would respond--finally had to do a hard re-boot and system would not clear BIOS just started the same "chirping" noise. I know it sounds BAD but he is extremely upset and has asked me to try ANYTHING to try and salvage something off of this drive. The specs that he gave me :
45 GB IBM Deskstar
Windows XP Pro
Please post any suggestions.
Thanks

if the drive is detected in bios, then recovery software will do, if not, he is about to learn how much his 12 hours unsaved work is worth..
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

It is a potential emergency aid if all else fails.
PS
The post is still an active thread in tech to tech under "DeathStar fixed.
Good luck.

Send the drive out to a recovery service. I was stupid enough to not have a backup once a few years back and spent $1400 getting all my data back. It hurt but they can restore everything. Generally it is placed on CDs but now it can be online as well..

There are many companies. This one is good as are several.
