    Angry A 'creative' rant !

[Begin Rant]Bloody stupid Creative ... stupid f*&king t*ssers ... why do you do this to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !?![end rant]

    Ahhhhhh I feel better now

(But I need to talk to myself for a bit !)

Ok - xp pro box with soundblaster live 5.1 , everything works ... so WTF are you asking about then 'ed ? ... - but I have that stupid devldr32 thingee floating about in task manager munching resources & generally pissing me off as no matter what I do I can't get shut of the damn thing ! - tried turning off in safe mode, removing the drivers, turned off system restore - infact every damn thing I could think of ! - Ahhh I see my dilema now ! - but do you really think talking to yourself is gonna help ?? - No I don't think talking to myself will help at all, I'll just be confus-ed no matter what !

Somebody help me please ! ... before I get any 'madder' than I already am. I want my creative drivers without devldr (or its variant devldr32) its not required & it produces poor performance

    Calm down 'ed, breathe!

OK what drivers are you using? Where did you get em from? Have you installed the liveware? Whats the CT or SB number of that (is it the evil oem version?)

Tried this? and delete the creative labs soundblaster installation folder under program files as well - otherwise it doesn't use the xp cdrom
    - oh yah and kill system restore while you do this as well

fell across this - lots of things to try...

I had to have at least two 'breaths' to get over this

I'd seen both links you gave me ... but ta anyway !

Solved it .... here's how - after much fruitless searching I realised that this machine had been to windows update - now there's a sound blaster update file there (which is of a later date than the KB you gave me) - but the one on creatives site, the latest, is february something, which is earlier than the one on windows update, so you'd assume newest was best - mu-ha-ha-ha !!! - look at the infs of each (once you've sussed how to open the self extracting exe or the download, to see) & you discover the inf on the creative site doesn't install devldr32 at all, but one of the bits of bloatware does, look at the inf on the windows update site & even though the individual driver files are newer that inf loads devldr32 not the bloatware ... thanks very much Uncle Bill once again for making a 'cock' of things !!!

Bloody system restore had me most confus-ed too

BTW I see you are now "driver Terrier" - just a suggestion, but I really think you need to be shown as a 'mod' too - or won't it all fit ?

    Its Simple

Throw the creative away and buy one of the many CMI sound cards that have great drivers work as good as creative and have no issues
    IE: 8738 and on

Driver terrier is what I like doing and do the most around, moderating is what I only occasionally have to do.... so I am going with the majority verdict

    flogging creative

Oh, let's just bash Creative a bit more, shall we? They have yet to release drivers for the Live! series that are trouble free and really deliver all the functionality of their drivers for Win9x and even 2000. Took 'em a disgustingly long time even to release a crappy version of Liveware for XP. And how about the months and months when you had to install software (which didn't work) off the CD and then download and install something like a 20 MB patch to get it to work!

Seems to me this is yet another example of a vendor intentionally crippling the functionality of an older product to move you upscale. Other than the aforementioned odious patch, I have always found the Audigy and above to work well with XP. 'Course a generic CMI card or, better yet a Hercules Fortissimo III deliver better bang for the buck.

Well, I got to tell you that the only reason I haven't upgraded to an Audigy card from a Live Value card is because My Live card under XP works great! Sound is great, no issues with the software at all. Then again I do not use any of the software except the drivers themself and the mixer settings.

I had many issues with the PCI and later the Live series with pops, stutters and various other ramifications. I paid the price for a Wilamont Game Theater XP, and never looked back. Works slick with XP and doesn't hog the resources. i don't consider Creative a viable alternative, now.
