Can't you still get 98 OEM ? ... you still can where I am ! So I'm even more confus-ed than usual ! ... but for now I shan't be doing any of that ! Especially since xp pro costs 1.5x as much

But err have you never heard of 2nd hand ? I dunno if I've completed shall we say 'the formalties' as far as licensing transfer goes - but I'm often able to procure 'old' copies for clients from new rollouts as/when they want them ...

You can still buy a new machine with 98 OEM on it? I don't mean a brand new pII 350 with 98 on it from the local chop shop, I mean a brand new P4 or AMD xp system with 98 OEM.

I have not seen anyone selling these anymore.

Ahh so you mean pre-installed (I'll casually ignore Ya_knows advice to 'let it go' ) ... errr I'd suggest that'd be a marketing thingee !!!

Manufacturers of the 'latest & greatest' machines, wouldn't want to be making a retrograde step in the eyes of the consumer do they ??? Why put what Uncle BIll seems to have convinced most of us, is 'inferior' on shinny new boxes ? (Not me though - horses for courses !)

But your information is handy - TA ! .... that means I can now happily send out machines dual booting & know I'm inside licensing agreements - because I too have many a customer with apps that only 'run properly' in a true DOS environment - so I can have both operating systems installed & covered 'legally' because I can of course only 'use' one at a time !

I think dual booting is defeated by the downgrade rights. If I am not mistaken you would require both licenses...although I could be wrong.

Ahhh build me up ... then knock me down - why don't you !

We did the 'do you require two licenses to dual boot' saga before - trots off to check ... & much as it hurts ... you are right.

At the risk of removing all doubt about my mental incompetence, I am compelled to revive this thread of two rabbit trails. The second one is the painting. Well, maybe it's the only "rabbit trail". I've looked really hard, I found nine faces, I think (but the answer link failed to work). But what really confounds me is.... where is the blinkin' pig????? I see a sleeping dog with a face on it's tail (I think). But, I see no pig, well endowed or otherwise. When you say pig, bacon and ham come to mind. What I see reminds me of fetch, stay, and wet noses. Did I miss something or is this a British thing?

& edit - you say the link don't work ? It does here, so I shall invoke cut & paste, if you can't get there for whatever reason ....

Here are the 9 people in the picture.

Each of these circles contains a face.

1- The man with the stick.
2- The lady caring her child.
    3- The baby.
    4- An old Man.
5- A Face looking towards you.
6- A face looking towards the left.
7- A face looking towards the left.
8- A Face looking towards the right.
9- A Face looking towards the right.

    No mention of any Pigs
