Windows ME and USB optical mouse
Customer brings in a Dell Optiplex GXA ,Win Me & Logitec usb optical mouse, and explains that the mouse just stopped working so we put it on the bench and started to check it out.The mouse tests fine, the machine works fine with a ps/2 mouse, shutdown hook up the usb mouse and it lights up, windows says its there but the cursor dosn't move and the buttons don't work .Go to device manager remove it and then reboot , Windows finds new hardware installs the mouse and it works fine untill you reboot then its the same thing. We have tryed it with the logitec drivers and without. So we put a test drive in the machine installed windows Me on it with the usb mouse hooked up and the mouse works fine even after a reboot.
We have used Msconfig to load the system selectively but to no avail.Thought about trying an install in place of Me to see what happens , anybody ever had this problem? if so any help would be appreciated.

Try going into device manager in safe mode, removing the mouse and everything under usb devices, rebooting with the usb mouse in place, and letting windows rediscover everything

Tryed this approach the results are the same. The mouse works great until you reboot,We tryed hooking up a ball type microsoft usb intellimouse and the same thing happens. However other usb devices work ok,We have tried installing a pci add on usb card, tried it with and without other devices, its truley a mistery. Thanks for the input its much welcomed.
