    Website Problem

    I'm trying to change the website I maintain to have a java script menu bar across the top of the screen and lose my links along the left side of the website. Here's a link to the website.

    I downloaded Top Navigational Bar IV from Dynamic Drive's website, and tried to use it. When this is downloaded, it includes: mmenu.js, menu_array.js, menu.htm, readme.txt, and some gif images. The webpage (menu.htm) is where you can view a sample of the menu bar. The readmen file is how to install the bar, and the gif images are examples used in the sample webpage/menu bar. All this was stored together in a folder on my local computer.

    I edited the bar to how I wanted it to look while it was still on my local computer. It looked great so I tried to implement it onto the website. I use Frontpage 2002 and use shared borders on the website. I followed the directions in the readme.txt and copied the necessary code into the html of the top border. I also copied the necessary files (mmenu.js, menu_array.js, and gif images) into the _borders directory.

    The problem is that when the webiste is viewed through Internet Explorer with shared borders the menu looks like a dot because it is so small (top, left hand corner of the website). If you go here, you'll see just the top border, and the menu looks great.

    Anyone have any ideas on how to great the menu to look "normal" with shared borders? Thanks.

    Well, what I'm not clear on is if there is supposed to be anything along the left side of your page.

    The site looks great as is. Remember though, Frontpage likes to do its own script correction on items that you insert, so be careful. One way to avoid this is to put <----WebBot---> tags around the code that you do not want frontpage to touch.

    If you need more help, let me know.

    *Edit: Ok I just re-read your post. What you would want to do is to create a "frameset" like the one HERE

    That page has 3 actual pages that make it up, a top page http://www.shalercom.net/topnav.php;
    a main page
    http://www.shalercom.net/main.php;
    and a nav bar
    http://www.shalercom.net/nav.php

    These parts are infact 3 separate independent pages.

    As long as you keep your links within the borders of the frameset, then you site will look normal

    I posted this on another forum and was told the version of the menu bar I was using is about 20 revisions old. I updated to the newest version of the bar (which works great with shared borders) and put it on the website. I should have closed this when I did that... Sorry...

    I'm glad you liked the website...
