As you can see from this list DVD players are very picky about what media they will or won't playback
According to samsung it can read that media, so you may have authoring problems instead

Mmm, unfortunately there's no guaranteed compatability between any particular DVD player, and any particular writable DVD format. However it may be that a firmware update could cure the problem, if you would feel up to trying that. It appears the latest firmware was released just over a month ago, but there are no details of what updates it provides:
SD-616T Firmware Ver f306
There should be a file in the zip explaining how to update firmware. Not to discourage you, but there is always a slight possibility that something could go wrong during an update. If you have doubts, you could have it done by a professional, then it's their problem But the cost probably couldn't be justified.
Another thing to check is, if possible, try a DVD-R disk, the drive may be simply having problems reading the less reflective writable disks due to laser aging or not being designed for writables. If it [i]can[i/] read a DVD-R this is not the problem. In either case, the firmware update may still provide a solution.
Haha, to the minute, NooNoo
Edit: hang on, according to the spec list in your link, NooNoo, DVD+R isn't included...

Glad you got such a good result from my suggestion RossJacks. These days more and more functions are being implemented in firmware, and sometimes the only way to know if something is hardware or firmware is to just try the update.
