video card recognition
I have reformatted my hard drive and can not now get 256 colour. The motherboard is SP97-V but the vga chipset looks to say Super TX.
I expected it to say SIS5596 or 5598
I've loaded 5596 & colour is ok but the mouse does not work then. Can anyone help please?

I am not a professional but, What O.S. are you using? Have you checked I.R.Q. conflicts? Bios settings since re-formatting?

I'm running on Win98. It was Win95 prior to reformatting. IRQ's I have not checked

try going into the Bios & setting the ' Allocate IRQ for VGA ' to enable ', then goto the section which deals with Plug n Play & set the ' Update ESCD ' option to enable.
Give it a go, it has been so long now since I worked on an Asus SP97-V that I cannot remember which BIOS they use

hey, try setting up the right monitor, if you don't know your monitors name try using standard 1024x768 or standard 800x600
you can set up the monitor in CONTROL PANEL, DISPLAY, press SETTINGS tab at the top, click ADVANCED, click MONITOR tab at the top, click CHANGE, and select the right one.
believe me, this should work, and after all that try setting up the video card all over again if you didn't do it before

Yes you have to setup the monitor and video card all over again every format. My card would only do 16 colors until I reinstalled the drivers.

Think about it, but not to hard, wouldn't want to give you a headache.
