I'll bite. What video board do you have and do you have the driver disk that came with it? I'm going to bed now. Post your info and we'll pick it up tomorrow (or some other night owl can step in and help).

Try removing the video card from the display adapter and restart the computer...with any luck it will find the old drivers form the previous install and auto-set everything for you. If it installs the standard drivers, your going to have to find out what video card is in there and get the correct drivers for it.
    OR
After removing the drivers, before you restart, try the New Hardware wizard and see if it finds anything besides the standard drivers.

A video card and display adapter are the same thing--you're gonna confuse this poor guy. And removing the video from "device manger" and redecting will just get him where he is.

So, Scott ignore the last message. We do need to know what board you have. Do you know how to open your system and take out the video board in order to identify it? If you don't feel qualified/comfortable with that call a tech in your area. Getting your video working again should take but a few minutes and should be a fairly inexpensive repair.

i was told 2 search on the motherboard and the only things obvious are a 1 inch square chip with a holographic sticker on it has a thick "i" printed on it beside the name "AWARD" 1998 & PCI/PNP also another chip a bit bigger than 1 inch square with INTEL FW828014A-SL3MA (I'M ASSUMING THE HUGE MUTHA UNDER THE FAN UNIT ON MOTHER/B WITH "CELERON" ON IT IS MY MAIN PROCESSOR.I CAN OPEN IT UP WITH CONFIDENCE AS I ALLREADY HAD TO INSTALL MODEM AND I PUT IN A NEW FLOPPY DD.I KNOW,I KNOW HARDLY ROCKET SCIENCE I AGREE BUT IF YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT 2 LOOK FOR IF IT'S THERE I,LL FIND IT ESPECIALLY IF ITS COST EFFECTIVE AS TO BE HONEST GUYS WITH BEING A SINGLE DAD TO MY 10yr old DAUGHTER & 3yr old SON.a TECH CALLOUT WOULD HAVE TO BE SAVED FOR:-(.LOOK 4WARD 2 REPLYS.RESPECT ALL THE WAY FROM EDINBURGH THE CAPITAL CITY OF SCOTLAND 2 ALL WHO CARE ENUFF TO ASSIST.

To be honest, In fifteen years I've never used any of the utilities that help you identify chipsets--I haven't needed to. I think this is a case where one is needed but I will have to defer to you to tell him what to use and where/how to use it.

Scott, is there a brand-name on the computer? Or some other external markings that could help us with identifying it? Where the monitor plugs into the computer, does the socket look like it's part of the Motherboard (yes, its the largest board where the celeron is plugged in) or does it plug into a card that is plugged into the motherboard?

There are two cables coming out of the back of the monitor. One goes to power, the other goes to the back of the computer. Your last post doesn't mention anything about where this is plugging in. I need to know if the video chip is embedded in the MB or on a separate card. Reread my previous question and try to get me this info. Also, in you first post you said your system is an IBM...where does this info come from? Can you give me a list of everything written on the computer case itself--front, back, sides, bottom?
