XP partition/Dual Boot
Have a pc with XP home, it came with a partitioned HD, (C:, D and now I want to learn Linux.
I want to set up Dual boot on the machine but have no idea where to start
can anyone give me some tips on how to go about it, I know its not as simple as just d/loading Mandrake onto the D:.
Any advise would be appreciated

The new versions of Linux make it incredibly easy to do dual or even triple boot. First off, make sure any valuable data is backed up (I said it was easy, not fail-safe). Then download what ever version of Linux you want from www.linux.org (look in the Distributions section) or buy a copy. When you boot to the linux cd, it'll start the auto install. Watch what you're doing when you get to the master boot record part of the install, it'll ask you if you're going to do a multi-boot. It's pretty much all self explanatory.
Perseverance in all matters.

I was thinking today about downloading Knoppix straight onto a CD and just running from that without messng with HD etc.
Is knoppix a good distro to learn from??

Never used Knoppix myself, though I've heard good things about it. I use Redhat, SuSe and Mandrake. Those three are especially known for their ease of install, I can't speak for Knoppix.
