    Instant Wireless Network Access Point

    Hi all-

I have 4 Linksys WAP11 Access Points. I want to install them in my warehouse so I can have a wireless connection anywhere I go. Can I just hardwire the AP to the network and spread them out so the coverage is spread throughout the warehouse? How will the laptop know which AP to communicate with as I go from one area to another?

    I appreeciate the help!

    Thanks-

Generally, you should set up the AP (on different channels) so that their coverage areas extend a bit into each other to prevent loss of signal.

The wireless NIC *should* be able to pick up from one AP to the next as it passes through the zones with a minimum of configuring.

Check out Intel's docs on this: http://www.intel.com/business/bss/in...dex.htm#deploy

What adept said. Make sure your coverage overlaps and your card will automatically detect the stronger signal and switch over. This is a built in feature of 802.11 (any flavor). Just make sure all aps have the same ssid. Also make sure you secure the aps. I suggest starting with mac filtering and disableing the ssid broadcast. Once you have that all setup and working then try and enabling wep. I've had hit and miss experiances with wep so I leave it off on my home network. But if you are going to be transmitting any type of business data I strongly suggest you get it working.

One thing you might consider is having a wireless specialist come do a site survey to make sure you have enough coverage or aren't going overboard (ie maybe you could get by with 3 aps instead of 4).

Also a great place for wireless support is the netstumbler forums (you could use netstumbler to check for coverage in the warehouse yourself. Just make sure you have a supported card and you should be golden). Cheers.
