No Power On New Motherboard...Help Please

I have a friend who has replaced his old motherboard and processor with an Intel board running a 2.2 Gig processor. The new board is identical in shape, size, and the way it screws to the case. It was the recommended upgrade for his system. But after installing the board, he has absolutely no signs of power. None of the lights on the exterior of the case light up and no video at all. But if he removes the new board/processor and puts the old one back in, it boots right up to windows 98.

Any suggestions?

I know you said it was the same size etc. but just double check that there is not an extra standoff hiding under the board that does not have a screw in it. Had this happen to me once and although I thought all were accounted for it turned out there was one hiding under there--took care of it and all came up fine. Hope it is that easy of a solution for you.

Try running the new board outside the case. Hook up power, power switch, video, memory and CPU, and see if it lights up...

What make and model computer is your friend installing the new motherboard in? Was it a P4 system before? Does the power supply have the extra power conncector that some P4 systems require? Are you sure the power switches wires are plugged in the right location? Are the leads for the power LED, HDD LED, reset switch, power switch and speaker seperate from each other or are they all together on a block? If the leads all go to a block that gets plugged onto the motherboard, the configuration of them wires on the block are probably incorrect.

Exactly the problem...he needed another power supply.
