    IIS XP Home Edition

    I need to install IIS on XP Home Edition and understand there was a workaround for this (q310090).

    I copied the IIS2.inf, and .dll to the appropriate folders, and modified the SYSOC.inf file, but IIS still is not showing as an installation option.

    I used the IIS.dl_ and IIS.IN_ from the XP Home cd, as well as copying it from on of our XP Professional machines.

    Does anyone have the original Microsoft workaround, or know why IIS is not populating as an option.

    I am thinking you need the files IIS.dl_ and IIS.IN_ from either a win2000 server or win2000 disc..i don't think the xp pro ones will expand correctly for this.

    More a note than any 'help' ... they've 'pulled' this KB, the official line NOW is that XP home does NOT support IIS.

    & a further note ... xp pro does of course include the 'correct files', but they are in different cabs from those named in q310090 that referencing win 2k and some are cunningly renamed (no doubt deliberately) to compound the confusion.

    Sneaky tricks from Uncle Bill once again !

    If anyone does happen to have the text of the original KB 'lurking' ... a bit of cut & paste, would most definately be appreciated

    Well if the server is standalone IIS is wicked easy to setup (copy files to www directory?). But yes apache is where it's at (all thought I've never run it from windows).

    Dead easy, download, run the setup wizard, tell it the name of the site and bob's yer uncle.
