    .rtf file in Outlook 2002

I have a user that can't open an rtf file attachment. When you try to open it, a message states that you need permission to the folder you are opening the file to. This problem is unique to this user because the other recipients on the distribution list have no problems opening the file. The twist is, however, this user can open older .rtf files that were sent prior to 1 month ago.

Never seen it. Several things to try, not in any particular order...

Recreate the Outlook profile (don't use the copy option, manually recreate it).

Recreate PST, move items from old to new.

Check for office updates, install if applicable

Depending on the OS version, perhaps recreating the local windows user profile...don't forget to save a copy of the profile, I usually just rename the old one, then have the user login to make the new one, do what you need to test out this issue, if the problem persists, you can always go back to the old profile.

Check permissions on the user profile, the default temp directory for outlook…

Try deleting all of the temp files, and temp Internet files…

    Rename Normal.dot

    Then, shoot the clerk.

    Exactly the message please

    & I'll add, beware the MSI !

(that's that flipping Microsoft installer issue, where you have to patch up the o/s then do an office install then the updates for that, else muchos weirdness takes place)

OK, The message reads: Can't create file: xxxxxxx.rtf. Right click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.

    FYI,
    O/S= XPpro sp1,
sp1 & sp2 have been applied to MSOffice XP

    Thanks guys

This advice really as 'last resort' ...

M$ swear blind that installer issues don't occur in xp as MSI 2.0 ships natively with it ... ha-ha-ha ! is all I have to say, I still continue to experience 'office weirdness' for no apparent reason when I fail to follow my own advice (as above), sp1a for xp includes the flipping installer package anyway, so if it wasn't 'broke' why are they fixing it? ... personally I still think order of patches is critical - maybe the now released MSI beta 3.0 might finally do it all in one go.

The other question is, is this a local install or a network one, that message doesn't 'sound' like office is generating it, I can't think that office knows diddly squat about permissions ...

    Done all Ya_knows suggestions ?

It's a local install. I haven't tried Ya_Know's suggestions only because getting to the machine is an issue. Executive Staff, we have to make an appointment

    Fixed

I got in there today and recreated the user profile. That took care of the problem.

    Thanks Again, Guys
