FAT File System Technology and Patent License
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/ip/tech/fat.asp
Microsoft is offering to license its FAT file system specification and associated intellectual property. With this license, other companies have the opportunity to standardize the FAT file system implementation in their products, and to improve file system compatibility across a range of computing and consumer electronics devices.
pretty wack, selling the fat filesystem for $0.25 each partition

It's a tad more complex than that.
this is a very balanced view - go googling on bill gates and gary kildall. Makes JFK consipiracy theories look both logical and reasonable.

Yup that's the one I was talking about....
My question is, why did IBM feel they had to get into the micro computer / pc market at all? Up till then it was the Altair running cp/m, interesting but not for domestic use. Or did they get to go for a walk in the Parc as well?
