Only 16 colors on monitor, help!
I have a Gateway 400 and just bought a CompaqV500 monitor. I am only getting 16 colors. What do I do?????

Your new monitor is probably not compatible with the drivers/settings for your old monitor. Make sure the monitor is set up in device manager as the correct model. If a 'Compaq V500' is not listed, just install it as a 'SVGA 800x600' or 'SVGA 1024x768'. Then adjust the display settings to your desired resolution and color depth.

Or just delete the monitor and reboot your computer.
Windows will find the monitor again, and put in the proper driver.

If the monitor ideas didn't work you can right click on you desktop, then click on properties, then settings. From there you can try changing your colors. If there is only the 16-color option, then click on advanced button, then the adapter tab. If it says something like standard windows drivers for a display adapter you will have to reinstall you video card drivers. Click the change button and fallow the instructions.
