My latest experience with Ebay Fraud

So, I've been looking for a 4 wheeler for my wife on Ebay. I've checked out 7 that seemed to be from both reputable sellers and a good deal. ALL SEVEN WERE RUNNING THIS SCAM.

    Hello,

First you have to know the ATV is available on Ebay, but the bidding is restricted.First reason is i have many problems with bidders in the past.I think they allways like to bid but not all the time like to buy.The auction is a buy it now one so,only one person can buy it.So i want to be sure the one wich will bid on it, will be the buyer. For that, you need just to be agree with my condition and the bike will be yours.

It will be shipped from Portugal, EUROPE and I will pay the shipping and insurance charges as I have a riend who works at fedex and it will arange for me a low price shipping.Shipping will take 4-5 days. Also I will declare the bike a gift so you will pay NO CUSTOMS WHEN YOU WILL RECEIVE IT!

The buying price for this bike is 3500 $ and as I told you I will pay for the shipping and insurence fees.

    1. SHIPPMENT :
Fedex service 4-5 days air insured with delivery to your home address and for thet please send your address in the next email.

    2. PAYMENT :
I'm a serious seller with experience in this field.I'm a fair trader with a good feedback on ebay which is the proof that l have closed a lot of sucessful deals. Here is written on my feedback:

You will arrange payment through money order(www.westernunion.com ).
All you have to do is go to www.westernunion.com and find an local agent near you were you have to go and send the cash. Also,I accept a half payment now and half after you will receive it and inspect it.

    3. INSURANCE
The ATV will be insured at the delivery service and insured for the transport.

    4. RETURN POLICY
As soon as the package arrives, you will test the bike and if it does not matches 100% to your expectations, you will return it in max. 15 days sience the arrival date. In this case I will send you the full amount back and you will send me the product in the original crate and you don“t have to pay the return shipping and insurance.

If this will be ok with you just email back with your info and tell me what info you need more about the bike and transaction and you will have its.

Sincerly hope to do the transaction.

Hi. Where are you located? I'd like to take a look at the wheeler if you're close enough.

    Thanks,

Yeah, wiring money is a dead give away and I'd imagine most people would have the savvy to know a scam but damn, just the shear number of bogus auctions is amazing!

Try this search and look at how many results come up as invalid auctions. Most of thsoe invalid auctions are scams (as opposed to just auctions that just ended early). Sort them under lowest price.

I have a fraud story. This happened to a customer of mine.

He is a book and ephemera collector of some note and he had an auction last week for a signed item on eBay. He's done this dozens of times. The items he sells are several thousand each, so he deals with a pretty up-and-up clientele.

Anyway, last week, some copied the HTML code from his auction page and reposted the item under his own eBay user id. My customer started to get complaints in e-mail. (Some folks thought that he was a scammer.) He found the auction and eBay shut it down.

Interestingly, eBay did NOT shut down the person's userid.
    Cheers,

I bet they didn't shut down the user id because his account was hijacked. Someone hijacks your account, sends fake payment info to the buyer and your user id is left "at fault" ..sort of. People clicking on these damn ebay user id viri... I feel sorry for them but damn! Get a clue!

My buddy ran into a similar scam on eBay over a mountain bike. Locally it would cost about $3500 but he could buy it new for $1500 plus $1000 for FedEx shipping & Insurance from France...

The scumbag was an American businessman in France selling bikes... from the get go I was suspicious and going by the e-mail header the e-mail was coming out of Russia... so my buddy asked about that and the guy said if he prefers to send money to his Russian address that is fine too!

Fortunately by buddy didn't buy and about a week later the *real* owner of the hi-jacked eBay account wrote to tell everyone about her account be compromised. My buddy got lucky and he still owes me a steak dinner!

Personally I was scammed when the Indonesia scams first came out on a motherboard I didn't need. The scumbag used the "Buy it Now" feature and didn't blink at the charges for FedEx... paid via PayPal right away... The local address/telephone was bogus though and when I asked about it all he would say was if I'm not happy with the sale return his money. NO freaking way. I notified both eBay and PayPal (PayPal after taking what was legally mine) and sure enough PayPal took it back and froze my account for a week or so while investigating it.

    eBay sucks...

yep, ebay does suck. I think they'll work out the majority of problems eventually but I hope the stock tanks when all this crap starts making dateline or 60 minutes... then I can pick some up cheap

No, his account was definitely not hijacked. We're sure of that. At any rate, the person copied the HTML code verbatim and just posted it under his userid.

That's BS. That guy should have his account cancelled and be brought up on charges.
