Uninstall Printer Drivers in DOS
Good Morning
A user just called me asking how to uninstall the drivers for an HP DeskJet 600 in MSDOS. For the life of me, I can't remember anything about DOS. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. Thanks for any help, and have a great day.
At least it's not a Monday!!!

If he wants to do this, he must have a dos based program set up to use the HP printer.
Typically you can just remove the printer from within the program.
HP 600 is old enough that it came with win3.1/dos drivers, but the dos drivers would be program specific, would they not?
Get more info like what dos program he uses this printer for.

Look in config.sys and autoexec.bat and rem out the lines that load the drivers. That printer will work as a normal text-only printer without any problem. There should be a config utility for setting print quality (djcp.exe if my memory is still good).

The printer driver tells the computer how to communicate with the printer. Many DOS (R) programs will print to the HP Deskjet printers using the printer selections within the DOS applications.
Information
- Hewlett-Packard does not write DOS drivers for HP Deskjet printers.
- Printing capability is written into the DOS programs by the program manufacturer.
- Many DOS programs have a list of printers to select from. Choose the driver for your printer, or select the 550C. These are incorporated into the program by the manufacturer.
- Some programs will have only generic printing capability, with no list of printers to select from. If this is the case, the program may or may not have printing capability.
For further information about printing capability or print drivers in a DOS program, contact the DOS program manufacturer.
I do remember a dos config utility for the Deskjet as well.
But we need more info here.

From HP's website:
How to Completely Deinstall the HP DeskJet v 7.0 Printer Driver.
Also:
How to Completely Deinstall the HP DeskJet v 6.0 and 6.1 Printer Driver.
It has step-by-step procedures for deleting the above...not in DOS but in the Windows environment. It should work for you.
