    New install Error

Im reworking a machine for a friend, she went and bought a copy of XP home when I fdisk and format the drive everything seems to go fine. Then it does the copy of the setup files to the hd. Now is when the problems start when it goes to reboot it says it cant talk to that partion and its like it cant see the C: drive is there a virus that is causing this or do I need to Fdisk /mbr and maybe clear it up? Any suggestion will be tried.

    Thanks

Did you format the HD with the XP CD or a Win98 floppy? Use the XP CD, the options are in the early part of setup...

I don't know if that is your problem, just an Idea...

    This should be easy...

All you should have to do is to remove all partitions with the XP CD and then make a new NTFS partition. Full format should remove any traces of cooties.

Yes, cooties is a very technical term used around my University. It's what PhD's can understand!

    Hope this helps!

Swap the memory out, sounds like HD not the problem now if you've tried 2. Memory is now my favorite!

    How is the drive connected?

If there is any kind of controller (other than normal onboard ide) you have to do the f6 bit
