Unhappy Monitor troubles with display and driver

    Hey yall,

I really need help. i recently formatted my computer because it was clogged up with a lot of junk. I asked a friend if i formatted my computer would all of the hardware such as the monitor and cd-writer would still work as i didnt have their intallation discs/drivers and he said that it would be fine. Stupid me i followed his bad advice and formatted my computer.

When i re-installed Windows 98 it seemed fine until i noticed that i couldn't change the resolution or number of colours on the screen. for some reason i could only have 640 x 480 resolution and either 2 or 16 colours.

I then realised i needed the monitors driver cd but i dont have it any more. I then tried to get the driver for my monitor off the internet but when i downloaded and installed them it didn't fix the problem.

My monitor is an "AOC Spectrum 7Vlr"
Could you guy please help me i'm desperate.

    THANKS
    Reuben

What you need are your video card drivers. Download and install them and everything should be fine.

    Welcome to Windrivers Reuben.

Do you know what sort of video card you have? What motherboard if not?

Is this a branded machine like compaq or hp?

Right Reuben, the thing we need to know about is the video card inside the PC.
The monitor in this case does not matter.
Like NooNoo says, if this is a brand name PC, but probably not since it would have installed the proper driver, give us the name and model and we will help find the driver for you.
Right when you turn on your PC, if you can see it, the video card will tell you what it is during the first screen: as soon as the PC boots up. But, often the screen fails to "light up" before you can see this screen.
In that case, you will need to either locate your original invoice to find the video card which came with the pc, or, open her up, and look at the card inside that the monitor connects to.
On that card you will see a "chip" which will tell you and us what video card you have.
From there, it should be cake.

    Right

I opened up my computer and looked at the video card. on it it said the following...

    M/N: SP5100/32MB
    P/N: nvidia TNT2 Pro/32MB

    5102109693
    3892A721

I think maybe the important part of it is the "nvidia TNT2 Pro/32MB"
So what do i do from here help me guys please!

    THANKS
    Reuben
