Then, why the US blame Canada? It's like the lastest trends. If you can't blame yourself, blame others. I wonder what they have conjuged up to make that announcement.

Now I'm no eco-scientist ... but it doesn't take one or a rocket scientist to figure that feeding cows on cows isn't a good idea, nor filling them with growth hormones nor anti-biotics, now I'm sad to see BSE spreading to yet another country .... but lets not get carried away with the sympathy here, farmers & farming practices led to this, because of greed ! .... Now just where am I placing my sympathy, because at the moment I'm having trouble working out just where it ought to go

I think blaming Canada is a little too quick of a repond, as this article says. It's a little too suspicious and the cow was imported to the US over 2 years ago!

I don't think it can be proven that it got Mad Cow before or after.

I don't much get a chance to hang around here anymore. But, after reading this thread, and particularly these comments, I had to speak up.

First, the information [provided by your link to Canadian news] that the cow came from Canada...was supplied by Canadians. [Bravo for the honesty and integrity!!]

Second, as far as the "quick respond" of the US to this issue...I notice from your original thread that no grass grew under your feet in breaking the news and your emotions about it. And, as our UK members can attest, with a disease this serious in nature, you can be damn sure everyone involved wants a quick response!

Thirdly, it's easy, after wild comments are made, and if you don't have the knowledge or facts, to back up to a "conspiracy" ploy. [For you philosophers out there...it tries to make the opposition "prove the negative."] The fact is that the incubation period of this disease can be 4-5 years.

Everyone is complaining about the antibiotics and steroid use, and everything else that goes into these cows...did it ever occur to anyone that for the most part, these things have saved lives, and increased productivity, all positive byproducts...?

The antibiotics may be causing a long-term problem, however their use has been proven effective in protecting the cows, and the consumers. Until Mad Cow showed up, it was rare to find bad beef, unless it was a packaging or distribution issue, or contamination thereafter the slaughter. Sure, the long-term effect right now is a bad one, but protections are in place, all in an effort to prevent a serious outbreak. I am confident that the appropriate people, and not the blowhards of WinDrivers, will handle things.

Wow, a long one with no italicizing or font changes!

Of all the things there are to worry about in this (or any other ) age, the food supply should definately rank at or near the top. Money aside, where would we be without a safe source of food?
