    Well, it's that time again...

Time to format the boot partition of my hard drive and start from scratch. It's been a good install of XP Pro - nearly two years with no problems - but it's starting to develop those nagging little annoyances that come with a Windows OS over time, as hardware is replaced and upgraded.

Never again will a home use install of mine be so faithful - once went 83 days without a reboot, and even that was only because of an Nvidia Detonator upgrade.

I suspect I'll prolly do it New Year's day, using the downtime from whatever hangover I have to do it. Tis a dark day in the history of Cobra for sure...

Ghost is my best friend. 20 minutes 30 tops and I'm back to a fresh install with all the updates to the time I ghosted. Then I run all the critical updates and reghost.

Yeah, but I've made a lot of hardware changes & such since I did my original image, so ghosting would defeat the purpose.

One good thing about Windows XP (and Windows 2000 to some Extent) is That You have sysprep (System preperation tool extract the deploy CAB).
what it does it "Seals the installation and make it possible to tranfer it easily to another HArdware.
Just make sure you mark the flags - Pnp, Minisetup.
I use it all the time - after you get the hang of it it makes life really easy.

Combine this with Ghost Image (under 700Mb) Burn it into a bootable CD and "Walla" you have one good CD recovery based sollution.

Cheers - and Have a happy New year (in two days time),
    Gabriel

No way, I made my one post outside the tech lounge for the year offering advice in the tech to tech section. You might get another post outside the lounge in 2004, but I'm done for 2003.

I actually had some technical problems I couldn't figure out(almost always in office), had 1 or 2 novell questions, helped some guy in Houston, and tried to help restart the steam room and get rid of the chat people. I spread teh cleetus love.

See, I don't need anyone's help and I'm too good to help others at this point unless they pray to me and sacrifice a virgin to me.
