Indigo PC card installation disabled Cd-RW
Hi everyone.
Any help on this subject is greatly appreciated. I want to get my Indigo DJ card and my Inspiron 8500's CD-RW/DVD working in harmony together! I got some music to mix!
Here's what happened:
When I tried to install the drivers from the Echo CD with my Indigo DJ card, the computer crashed.
Now I can't read any audio or data Cd's on this drive anymore!
I then downloaded Echo's most recent (6.10) driver .exe file and managed to install from there. I turned off and plugged the Indigo card in. I rebooted and the blue light came on. The card worked but my drive wouldn't read any discs in the Cd-RW.
In my troubleshooting I learned it still reads DVD's with no problem.
I'm afraid the installation process wiped out a necessary driver or setting (the fact that the process declares it is searching for unnecessary drivers and eliminating them did worry me).
I have never had a problem with my Cd-RW/DVD drive in the 6 months that I've had this computer.
I tried using XP's restore function to undo the Indigo process but that did not resolve the problem with my CD-RW.
I then installed the most recent drivers for my drive from the Dell site, with no success.
I'm afraid I need to use the 'uninstall-install new hardware' feature and get the original drivers back on my machine.
But if I do that successfully, should I try to reinstall the Echo from the same exe file from the Echo site?
I expect it will send me down the same path.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mikal

I appreciate your suggestions.
I successfully installed the Adaptec item and checked it but it has done nothing to change the status of my Cd-RW/DVD drive.
Where do I go from here?
Happy New Year!

OK, lets start with full specs of your entire system.
Including what ide is connected to which device, what is set to master and slave, what pci cards you have in what slots, what motherboard model and which video card.
