I hate Gamespy/FilePlanet
Okay, so I've started playing Morrowind again with a completely new character. Decided to have a look for new plug-ins and mods before I began playing.
Found one I really wanted to try. Downloaded. Looked at the readme. It requires another plug-in, which I don't have. I go to the site to get the plug-in. It's hosted on file planet. No big deal.
Wrong.
I just finally started downloading this measly little 3MB file after "waiting in line" for an hour to start. This is total BS. FilePlanet sucks ***. I hope File Planet dies, I hope GameSpy dies, and I hope IGN dies for merging with them.
That is all.

Yep. I hope they die so there will be one less place offering free downloads of demos and mods.

I hate fileplanet as well. If I search enough, I can usually find an alternative that is faster and immediate.

Add me to the "I hate gamespy" list. A truly crappy place to be anytime. The wait for the steam upgrade was truly horrific. Of course registered paying members got it instantly, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS FREE SOFTWARE!
Top tip: ALWAYS run adaware or any other spyware app after visiting their site.

Hi there,
Try finding it on a P2P system. If not, you can always bring a bunch of friends and gaming fan and created your own gaming site that could who their butts off...

If File Planet dies, big deal - there are plenty of other places to download demos and such for free, and they do it a whole hell of a lot better.
But that's beside the point. I'm not upset about the waiting time in and of itself. If it was a 300+ MB game demo, or a 50+ MB preview movie, sure I could see having a wait time on that. But an hour to download 3 MB? That's a bit retarded.
The problem I've run into is that there's really only one great Morrowind downloads site these days, since Morrowindfiles.com dried up, and that would be Morrowind Summit, which is run by - you guessed it - GameSpy. Now, a lot of the modders don't have any personal space of their own to host this stuff on - keep in mind, Morrowind Plugins are generally just script modifications, and therefore very small, like 100 KB or less, unless there's a bunch of new artwork or something of that nature. The good news is that Morrowind Summit offers hosting to these modders, but the catch is, it's on File Planet. So, since these files are produced by individuals in the game community, it's not like you're going to find them all over the web, and I've never had any luck finding anything decent related to Morrowind through the file sharing programs.

I caved in and bought a subscription so I don't have to wait. I'm just lazy though and tired of searching for patches... the iron is that I stopped playing games for the most part right around the time I subscribed.

**** file planet and **** the developers for not hosting the patches at least on their own ****ing website. I shouldnt have to wait in line for hours because they cant get the bugs out of a ****ing game I PAID for. I can see paying for mods, but hte patches is just ridiculous

And that's the way it would be with me as well. I really don't game much on my PC anymore, with a few rare exceptions.

Yup. I've had that same problem before years ago over at that IGN site. I just gave up on it after having to go through page after page after page of passwords, register, confirmation, check email, nope got the password wrong, now it's this password, please reboot and reload the fifth page back, etc. IGN sucks royally. Plus I can just picture millions of 12 year old punks sitting in their room downloading 100MB crappy game demos over their mommy and daddy's parentally controlled, networked PC, powered by a whopping "high speed" 56k Windows ME / AOL internet server, clogging up all the bandwidth. Yeah I gave up on that a long time ago. It's the same thing that seems to happen at every download site though. Napster, Kazaa, etc.
