Resolved [RESOLVED] Change default OpenGL drivers?

    System specs (short version)
    Athlon 1Ghz 266
    Asus A7V-133
    GeForce MX

I finally found my performance problem running OpenGL app's on my wife's computer after updating everything and still getting 1-3fps in MDK2 and graphic glitches in other app's.
The default OpenGL is for Microsoft drivers!
Now that I've found the problem, I don't know the solution...I do I get rid of the MS OpenGL and use the GeForce Open GL as default? This is running on WinME.

Go into the Windows\System folder and find opengl32.dll and rename it opengl32.old, this SHOULD force Windows to use your video card's OpenGL driver.
If it doesn't work, it's easy to restore the file to its original name.

Thanks, I was thinking about trying that but wasn't sure if it would work
Would this force the nVidia drivers then, or would it not be able to find ANY OpenGL drivers...?
I'll repost after I try this tonight.

    Thanks again!

    Didn't work, renameing/deleting opengl.dll

    It just recreated it!!

This is starting to erk me off!

Where does Windows keep the Vid driver info? I couldn't find it in system.ini

    Unhappy

I checked my win.ini and system.ini and didn't find anything there, it looks like it might be controlled by registry entry.

I can't remember the exact key, hopefully Silverman will bail me out here and provide the correct one.

You may also have to look in the .cfg and .ini files of your applications and edit them to point toward the nVidia drivers, which should be in the \Windows\System directory.

Here's an idea! Make a copy of the nVidia OpenGL driver, rename it opengl32.dll and no matter which file the application looks for, it will be the nVidia driver!
(almost like he knew what he was talking about )

I did a copy-and-rename like this to get Unreal running on my PC.
    Hope this helps.

    Windows\system folder for nvopengl.dll
    Also reg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\
OpenGLdrivers\RIVATNT\nvopengl.dll make sure they both are nvopengl.dll
Also in control panel -display -advanced- Geforce tab- will tell what version Like nvopengl.dll 4.13.01.2181
I agree with ZEROTECH just force the thing. That way you will no it is the latest driver.

    Thanks for the back-up, Silverman.
I know this isn't the first time you've come in to cover me.

Checking that registry key has helped a few times. I've GOT to print that out and keep it in my "vital notes" folder.

No problem ZT the string is for WinMe by the way. Whats always helped me in the past is to remove all past drivers and traces of past drivers for Nvidia before updating drivers, especially since the 21.81 drivers are supposedly rewritten and improved OpenGL. I'm still waiting for the Improved performance. HeHe

    Good idea's...none of them work.
Reg Hacked the default, replaced openlg32.dll with nvopengl.dll (3 seconds later it recreates and replaces with the original .dll)...I'm stumped, I'm lost and very bummed...

The odd thing is, this is all the hardware that exitsted during the system install...Windows is being her normal b1tch1e self

Sounds like you have a system restore function enabled, if this is the case than turn it off or disable it completely than try to change the dll. System restore and backup is a good idea on MS's part but can be a real fornicator when trying to change or update system level drivers.

In otherwords...that didn't help. Always good to diable that monster, but it still recreates the opengl32.dll whenever changed or deleted.
Why do I always have these odd problems that can't be fixed? Am I jinxed?
Any other ideas to take opengl from windows and use the drivers I want?
