remote desktop colour depth
im running winxp clients and win2k server. for remote admin purposes i use remote desktop to connect to the server, problem is it will only run in 256 colour mode no matter what i set it to in the options. i have tried both windowed and full-screen modes, and 16 bit and 32 bit colour on both the client and the server. not really got anywhere though.
what am i doing wrong?

Try this : Click the options button on the RDC client, go to display and check and see if the colors are set to 256. Change it to 16 bit or 32 bit. Also, under the experience tab, put it to LAN. I'm not sure, but I think RDC scale the desktop to the available bandwith it think it has. IE if it thinks it's on a 28.8 kbps modem it will only let the minimal go thru. Hope that helps.

It's a limitation of win2k terminal services. If you need more colours then you will need to upgrade to Win2k3.
