Err is this not more likely something like netbeui failing or whatever ?
Knowing 'what kind of network' & thus all about dhcp & dns issues we are likely to encounter, would have been where I started looking ... they all connect in the first place ? then disconnect later or show they've lost the mapping ?

sorry for the late reply,
confused:

yup, just as I've mentioned this just happens at random, sometimes it happens, sometimes not. No Netbui installed.
m still confused???
Mayet, yup Cussler is the best for me, I've read all of his books, my sister was even a character extra on Atlantis Found named Evie, i'm finishing Trojan Odessey now, great!!! and I've heard they have plans to make it a movie.

If 'search for computers' has gone 'screwey' (here it won't find other connected machines) then whatever is supposed to be 'finding them' isn't ! ... be that netbeui, wins, host files or dns (whatever the hell you use) ... at the risk of 'banging on' can you give me some clues?
This kb may/may not apply Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost 297684 too. (at least maybe think about changing the default time out & see if that makes a difference, here I don't know whether the machines are routinely on/off to see if the time out is it).
