Purchasing a DVD/CD RW
I'm looking for any advice in purchasing a new DVD/CD Reader/Writer for my Gateway computer. I would like it to read and write all formats with good speed. Price does not matter to me if I will be getting good quality. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I think you only need to look to 1 or 2 companies. . . . Plextor and Liteon. both make exceptional drives. I have the liteon 411s it's dual format dvd-/+R(W) and also burns CDs at 40X. I got mine from newegg for $130.
plextor has and probably always will make wonderful optical drives though they tend to be expensive.
I was always of the opinion that for most people, an optical drive is an optical drive. Having this burner and a friend who just got the el cheapo office max dvd writer has changed my mind. He's having trouble getting it to recognize memorex -r blank discs and has made a few coasters. My liteon has burned every kind of media I've used so far and I've only had one coaster and it was simply a computer freeze that I had to reboot to fix and it just happened to occur while I was burning a disc. I get good read speeds. the write speeds are spot on accurate. . . . . I'm a fan.

Welcome to Windrivers sflight! I would suggest reading the following review article from Tom's:
http://www4.tomshardware.com/storage...burner-41.html
And, I would add to Kato's recommendation the ASUS DRW-0402P since Tom's did not include ALL makes.
