The SOFTLOK service failed to start
Over the last couple of days the computer has restarted a couple of times.
This is a very common error or situation with me and windows xp pro legit,
when the computer restarts due to an error, it usually skips scandisk and delete, which it used todo faithfully in previous versions of windows.
"The SOFTLOK service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified."
Possibly due to a premature restart, i think the file is deleted.
Any help would be apprecaited.
Thanks

You could try a System REstore to a point when you know the service was loding properly, or you could re-install the application which put the file on the hard disk in the first place.
This service is associated with a dongle protection scheme, correct?

Welcome to Windrivers Adam, and, like Adept noted this is a dongle/security file which seems to be corrupt, and of course the company site requires a password to enter support. So, I suggest you contact them:

Geezer
I am of course confus-ed ... more so here !
..softlok error is still here..
..havent contacted softlok because i think its proberly shoddy software..
So ? either take it off or contact them !
Softlok is :-
Our hardware based Softlok 2 software protection system has been designed to provide software developers with a secure and reliable solution to profit protection, license control and distribution authorization. Softlok 2 keys simply attach to the users PC and if the key is removed, the software application will not execute.
So do we actually have the 'dongle' or no ?
& besides the service not running, what isn't working ? Pressumably whatever application is protected by 'softlok' which is ...?

Ive gotton somewhere today, i have established that this error may have to due with me not letting specific programs access the internet via my sygate firewall.
In softlok's website, it said that a product needs activation.
Because of this new information i have checked my firewall to see which files were blocked and i think it might be "wildtangent" which could explain alot because i have some trouble in terms of stability in games when the computer can freze.
I am now in the process of gaining info on wildtangent to see if it is that file.
