Question 2 Computers off one ADSL line?

Hi all. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question.

I was just wondering if it is possible to run two computers off one ADSL line? I have the onboard LAN and a seperate PCI network card. Is there a way to do this?

Running windows XP. Athlon 2400+. 1.5GB ram.

    Thanks all!

The easy way to do this would be to buy an adsl router/modem. That way you don't have to have one computer on all the time. Failing that you can use Internet connection sharing on the xP machine. Right click on the adsl connection in properties for my network places and on the last tab, check the box... it should bring up a wizard for you to do this.

Before you use internet connection sharing, make sure you can connect between the computers. www.wown.com gives some great tutorials, as does www.practicallynetworked.com

    Lightbulb Doh!

Ok.... Another idea just popped into my head so I have to ask. Sorry if its just stupid but perhaps you will teach me something with your answers! Can I not just have a double telephone connector on the wall splitting the line to two different computers/network cards?? Or is that just totally stupid? Thanks guys!

Your ADSL connection will be handled through a "modem". This device uses the RJ11 telephone jack while the PC (or the router / switch) is plugged into it.

Plugging 2 NICs into the modem will not work, nor will bypassing the modem to plug a PC in the phone jack.
