    Dots in video playback.

Alright. This one has me confus-ed!

I just noticed that any video I play in Windows Media Player or Real Player, I have evenly spaced black dots in the window that the video is being played in. These dots are very small, and are perfectly spaced out, approx. every 3/4 of an inch.

If I drag the window the video is playing in, the dot's do not move with the video. Instead, the window appears to move over more dots that are on the screen, but can't be seen until the video window is moved over that area of the screen. I hope that wasn't to confusing.

Oddly enough, these dots do not appear in Quicktime videos.

I updated to the latest and greatest Nvidia drivers to see if that would help, and it didn't.

    Thanks for any help.

I have found this, and I'm looking for this "direct X diag. tool".

    Question:
My video looks bad. It has random flashes of pink or green, or has spots.

    Answer:
This problem is typically associated with some video adapter drivers that have difficulty with some DirectDraw features that Windows Media Player uses. In many cases, updating the drivers for your video adapter corrects the issue. If this issue is not corrected by upgrading the video adapter driver, run the DirectX Diagnostic tool to test DirectDraw functionality.

For more information, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Q190900 DirectX: Description of the DirectX Diagnostic Tool

If this does not correct the problem, try changing the video options for Windows Media Player:

    1. Start Windows Media Player.

    2. On the Tools menu, Options.

    3. Click the Performance tab.

    4. In the Video Performance section, select a lower Hardware Acceleration setting.

Direct X Diag shows no problems. These dots are getting on my nerves. I don't want to do a reinstall, but I will if I can't find another solution. I just dont' get why it's in Windows media and real media, but not in quicktime media, AND not on any other windows, or my desktop.

    Lightbulb

Try "playing" with the accelaration option under diplay properties,

Don't sure where the location is but it is somewhere under Display properties -> advanced. It is under one of the tabs.

Ps What OS / SP level do you use (I assume you do not use win9x - no one does these days :butt: )

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

I had a strange problem getting Asherons Call 2 to work on my system. They told me it was because DX9 was installed improperly. I was like, whatever, I use directx all the time for other games and there was no problem... but after getting frustrated I tried what they suggested. Download DX9 complete installer, delete some registry keys and then go into safe mode and reinstall DX9... UNFORTUNATELY I can't remember the stupid registry keys.... All I remember is you delete a folder called DirectX somewhere but that's a dangerous game.... I'll look around and see if I can remember...
