New Card
My question is, I have a Radeon 8500 128 mb videocard, would it be in my intrest to upgrade to one of the newer cards? I only like ATI , but I don't know if any of the diffrent ATI cards would be more powerful. Thanks in advance Wholeeo

Check out Tom's Hardware review and see if investing more is worth it for you.
I originally posted it here: Tom's Latest Video Card Shootout
OMHO, if you're not thinking of going for the cream of the crop, you won't get much more for your money.

Hightech and Sapphire both are ati based cards. I have had both and I am well pleased with them both for the price and the preformance. I have a Hightech Excalibur radeon 9600. I used to have an 8500 Radeon. I can tell you the difference in speed and preformance is like night and day

I'm surprised by this result.
The only major differences apart from chipset are chipclock and DX9 for the 9600. The 8500 has the memory clock advantage and has double the pipes of the 9600.
I'd be curious to see some benchmarks of both cards using DX8.1, just for giggles.
Of course, if the 9600 card is an XT or Pro, that's entirely different story.
EDIT: Graph did not work so I removed it.

The 8500 was a Sapphire and not genuine ati and a LE to boot

Yeah, that might explain the gap in performance you noticed also.
Didn't mean to cast doubt on your observations BTW, I was just curious as I'm also looking to get a 9600XT (at least) as an upgrade for my GF2 MX400.
I'm fairly confident that there will be a noticeable change too when that happens.
