"It will have a larger pipeline," the representative said. "The larger the pipeline, you can do less work per clock and speed up the processor."

The key word is LESS work per clock cycle so that means it will process slower, but the gigahertz will be higher. WE WANT MORE WORK PER CLOCK CYCLE like AMD does.
That is like a person doing less work in an 8 hour day and getting paid more for it. Makes no sense to me.
I guess Intel just likes to play on the average consumer that thinks Megahertz/Gigahertz is the only thing that matters. It's sad really that a company like Intel is willing to stoop so low to sell a product.

From what I have read they intend to increase the amount of work per cycle. Wonder if that was a misprint.

From my limited knowledge on CPU technologies, the pipeline is like an assembly line in a car factory. It is a single file line and each and every calculation must go through the whole line. If there is an error that occurs during one of the calculations on a piece of data it has to go to the end of the line and wait to be reprocessed all over again. Making the pipeline longer allows Intel to speed up the whole process, but the whole process will take longer to go from start to finish for a single calculation. If what I have read is true we will be comparing Athlon 64s running at 2.6Ghz to Prescotts running at 3.8Ghz and the Athlon 64 will still outperfom the Prescotts due to shorter pipelines.
