Exporer not running in Win 98
This is really weird.
I have a PC running Windows 98 and it runs great. No problems whatsoever, except when shutting down, I get an explorer error. I booted up in normal mode to see what was running in the background, and amazingly, explorer is not in there. The only things running are: navapw32, systray, and rnaapp. When booting in safe mode, nothing is running in the background. I've checked google & microsoft's knowledge base with no real answers. The exact error message is:
This program has performed an illegal operation.
Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at 0000:10031BDA
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this 98 or 98SE, as it does make a difference when it comes to shut down issues. Also, ram and many other possibilites could be the culprit here (even NAV).Try this page for a start, and then come back with more details including your hardware.
