DVD-RW vs. DVD-RAM
What exactly is the difference between DVD-RW and DVD-RAM?
Can you use a DVD-RW in random access mode so it works like a hard drive? I think thats the advantage of DVD-RAM right?
I want to be able to use either DVD-RWs or DVD-RAMs to put videos I record from TV by normal letter access (With Easy DVD drag to disc) and I want to be able to delete any file and put a new file without having to format to get the space back that the old file used. Can DVD-RW do that or only DVD-RAM?
Thanks

Some light reading for you
Right now for the money & remembering media costs, put up with formating dvd '-rw' (that is infact 'random write' )... think about mount rainer compatible writers if you want 'hard disk style' access ...

Are you saying that dvd-rw's dont support random access? If I write a file, can I then delete from explorer it and regain the space it took to put more files?
LG has a very inexpensive drive that does dvd-ram, how much more expensive are the dvd-ram discs?
And what is a rainer compatible writer?
Thanks

I just looked at that rainer thing, it seems to be CDRWs, I have a CDRW drive and havent used it since I got my tape drive 4 years ago. I'm looking for something that's at least worth using and DVDs with 4.7GB, while still very little compared to my tape drive, have the advantage of faster access time and compatibility.
I would use it mostly for stuff I record from TV (I cant makea full backup to tape anymore because I have like 90GB of recorded shows) but I would like to be able to just delete a file and replace it whenever I want, Easy CD/DVD Creator adds this functionality to CD-RWs, wouldnt it add it to DVD-RWs too?
Thanks

Its dvd's too Look at this one for instance
You can do the drag & drop business with 'em all but if it isn't mt rainer then periodically the disk gets full & you have to reformat ....
Quick format for a rewritable takes 1 minute with my dvd +- rw.
