    Easy CD Recording Software Unstable on XP

    I installed an old HP 8200 rewriter I had in a friends computer and also installed the copy of Easy CD Creator that came with it. Now, when XP boots, I get an error message saying that the "CD recording software" drivers are not compatable with XP and they are being disabled. I just wish to get rid of this error message. Uninstalling the software does not help nor does uninstalling/removing the CD Writer in Device Manager.

    What can I do to get rid of this pesky error message. Upgrading to a compatable version of Easy CD Creator does no good as it then says the HP Rewriter is not compatable each time the unit boots.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    The first thing is to find out where it's starting from. Is it the hkey\local machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run key or in the windows startup folder or did it install itself as a service? You should be able to find out easily enough by checking the eventlog or looking in those places.

    If you have installed easy cd or direct cd, and its less than version 5... you will find your self getting very adept at hacking the registry to bits. Other way to cure it is to do an inplace install.

    I don't think Roxio ever had a upgrade or patch for their software for XP. Believe me, I tried. That's why I switched to Nero.

    That's pretty odd..I have both the xp patch and the upgrade patch that i downloaded from Roxio, and have been using version 5.0 with XP for about a year now with no problems

    there are a number of articles on uninstalling from xp in safe mode on the roxio website under support

    Version 5 and 6 are definetly compatible with xp. The issue usually lies in taking it out if it happens to crash. Thats when the fun begines. It gets very very nasty.
    Nero is beter software. Its easier and it works

    I had version 5 and I was never able to get it to work with XP. Nero is better.

    EZCD 5.1 works with XP
    EZCD 5.0 many problems

    I switched to Nero 6 Ultimate...Works better then EZCD...better overburn capabilities

    700MB CD I can get this:

    EZCD = 718MB MAX
    NERO = 722MB so far
