    Question Employment Where R U

    [/COLOR]
Well after paying $18,000 for top notch computer training I'm now ready to hit the work force with my newly aquired skills...Hmmm there seems to be a problem...No Employers are lind up to hire me (I was told the opposite before I started)

So I'm Calling out to all the Techies...Do you know of any company that would require some one with my skills.

MCSE, CCNA, A+, MOS, PM, Flash, Fireworks, HTML, Photoshop, LINUX, UNIX

Yes I known I am a moron for paying that much but hey what can you do

It's their job to get you to spend money on their courses...they did well from the looks of it...

Have you any experience other than schooling? If not, or very little, your best bet is to find some contract companies...they will get you short-term work, and you will accumulate some experience. It will also help bring in some money.

Permanent jobs are hard to come by, no one wants to quit, and there is plenty of competition!!! Good luck!!!

that's cold . . . . . funny but cold . . . . and besides with those qualifications he should at least be able to start as a greeter

seriously though, here is pittsburgh pa area things don't look as bad as they probably are. here is the current listings for Networking type stuff that my school sends me every week there are a few gigs there but pay for this type of thing around here isn't fantastic. (cost of living is relatively low though)

really I'd say just go out on your own. consult. with your summary of qulaifications you could easily demand $100+ an hour, but of course you should charge half of that - which is still a lot of money to you and makes you cheaper than most hopefully drumming up a lot of business. independant work / consulting is a great way to network to. . . . you may do a job for small to medium businesses that decide they need full time IT support. . . .who will be the first person they think of?

just my $.02. not that it's worth anything (they're canadian pennies)

5 Years of working in PC Shops, doing everything form builds, repair, installation of networks.

For Walmart... I would love to be the greater I'd do a much better job than our current one...she's so old it takes her like 90 sec. to say 'hello welcome to walmart'... (the large air tank strapped to her back probably does help)

Thanks for the list...every little piece helps

We currently have a job placement officer but man he is terrible...he sent job apps for a gemologist {What the Hell} All he does is a workopolis search for 'IT'
    and prints it off...

    So you're in Canada, eh?

I'd give the usual Internet job search engines a whirl if I was you, just to see which contracting or temp agencies are out there which could help you out.

I've had some contacts with 3-Soft in the past, and they were great. Maybe they've got an office close to where you live.

Really, if you want a job in IT nowadays, change your name to Aboo and head off to Bangalore, India.

If you add Ph.d to that list you could just stay in school and teach. Either that or follow Harvey's suggestion.

Either way, avoid the real world. The IT biz is in a downsizing cycle on the east coast. Especially in the banking/financial services sector.

Of course, freelance consulting and contracting is always an option, if you can handle working 10 zillion hours a week for meager income.

I'll be living in the Golden Horse Shoe Area

There are jobs out there...I see them in the papers all the time, but what would make me stand out...Any thoughts to what I should do to get noticed?...what will make me get my foot in the building for an interview...after that I think it's in the bag...

What would you do to get the employer to contact you for the intervew?
