Cool DVD Writer & Cd-Rom drives disappeared from My Computer

Hi, I have a problem with my dvd writer drive and my cd-rom drive not showing up in My Computer. This happened after I tried to upgrade my dvd writer. I had an hp 200i model, was upgrading to the 300i model which i had installed on my previous system. (I'm using xp media center edition.)I connected the 300i dvd writer into the computer, then I tried to install the software for it through my cd-rom drive. Well, there was some sort of error during the installation, and after I restarted, I discovered that the dvd writer and the cd-rom drive were not showing in My Computer. So I checked it out in Device Manager, both were still there, but had little yellow alerts, and the drivers for both were missing or corrupted or otherwise unavailable. I tried putting the old dvd writer in again, but still neither showed up in My Computer. So now I can't install the drivers for the dvd writer 300i because the cd-rom drive isn't showing, although it opens and closes and seems to be working otherwise. The dvd writer acts the same way.So the problem is that the drivers are missing. I thought perhaps I could run the 300i's software on a friend's computer and perhaps e-mail myself the drivers for the dvd writer ?? , but that still wouln't fix the cd-rom.
Is there any way I can recover the drivers through safe mode, system restore, MS-dos, or (must it come to this!) reformatting?! I'd appreciate all knowledgeable and helpful responses. Thank U![I][FONT=Verdana]

Unhappy DVD Writer & Cd-Rom drives disappeared from My Computer

Thanks DocPC for that link. I followd the directions, it came up with 10 different 4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}'s, some of them had upper filters and some had lower filters. None of them had both. Any suggestions as to what to do?Delete all the uppers and lowers everywhere? Thanks again!

Find the one that lists the dvd/cd-rom/drive in the right pane. Remove the filters in that key.

    Usually the first one listed.

Remember to export the registry before making any changes.
